PALGRAVE MANORIAL RECORDS. Vol. III. Rental of the manor, giving detailed locations of lands and the names of former tenants; dated (f. 1) 1 Ric. III [1483-1484]. Latin. Beside many entries have been written the names of subsequent tenants. Where applicable, a note of the total copyhold land ('terra nativa') held follows the entry for each tenant. The former demesne lands, leased to tenants, are entered on ff. 49-57. The rental groups together the holdings of tenants living in Diss (ff. 41-45, 54b-55), Roydon, co. Norf. (ff. 45, 55b-56), Stuston (ff. 45b-46), Thrandeston (ff. 46b-48b, 56b-57) and Wortham (ff. 27b-39), co. Suff. On f. 57b is a 16th-cent. note of the bounds of the common at Palgrave. At f. 32 is inserted a note on paper (watermark fleur-de-lis, cf. Briquet, Les Filigranes (1907), nos. 6999, 7006) concerning the admission of a tenant, 21 Edw. IV [1481-1482] Vellum; ff. iv + 58. 280 mm. x 205 mm. 1483-1484. Gatherings, i16, ii12, iii16 (1 and 2 cancelled), iv12 (12 cancelled); no catchwords, but at the end of each of the first three gatherings is an erased note (of total annual rent?). Limp binding of contemporary vellum (some scribbles). The inner covers (ff. ii, iii) are part of a draft of the rental, containing entries which appear, with variations, on ff. 44-45b; among scribblings on f. ii is 'Ditat seruata fides 1570' in an apparently contemporary hand.
