PALGRAVE MANORIAL RECORDS

45951-45961. RECORDS OF THE MANOR OF PALGRAVE, CO. SUFF., held successively by Bury St Edmunds Abbey (to 1539), the Crown (1539-1554) and Sir Thomas Cornwallis and his wife Anne (from 1554) (cf. Hist. MSS. Comm., Braybrooke MSS., 8th Report, 1881, App., 277); early 15th cent.- 1563. The manor apparently included property in Wortham (co. Suff.) and perhaps also in other neighbouring parishes. In addition to the alternative copies of some of the documents cited below, other manorial records of Palgrave are Add. MS. 14849, ff. 52-56b (rental, 1357) and Add. Rolls 32934, 63584 (accounts of the Messor, 1348-1349, 1470-1471), 63580 (account of the lessee of Palgrave and other manors, 1461-1462). All the demesne land of the manor, although still distinguished in the 16th cent. from the ancient tenant land, appears to have been leased to the tenants since at least 1348. Eleven volumes.
