Add MS 45958

PALGRAVE MANORIAL RECORDS. Vol. VIII. Transcript of Vol. VII, apparently by William Davy, as a note in the same hand on Add. MS. 45957, f. 2 reads 'Irrotulatur hic totus liber per me W Davy'; the forename is supplied from Add. MS. 45961, f. 1, where he is described as 'Seruientem Dominio huius predicti Manerii.' Most of the corrections made in Add. MS. 45957 are incorporated in the text of this copy, but a few later corrections have been made in both manuscripts or in one or other alone. On ff. 60-63 is a copy of Letters Patent, 13 Dec. 12 Hen. VIII [1520], confirming the Abbey of Bury St Edmunds in the possession of seven Suffolk Hundreds. Vellum; ff. ii + 63. 355 mm. x 245 mm. Circ. 1561-1562. Gatherings of eight or (ii, vi [1 cancelled], xi) four leaves. Initials in the first and last gatherings are decorated with pen-work touched with brown chalk; elsewhere they are less elaborate. A contemporary foliation, 1-53, runs from f. 2 to f. 54. Binding, contemporary vellum.
