NICHOLS PAPERS. Vol. XXVIII (ff. 74). ‘Nicholodeon; [circa 2000]. Typewritten draft, partly photocopied. First performed by the Show of Strength Theatre Company at the Tobacco Factory, Bedminster, Bristol, in 2000. The work is an anthology of Peter Nichols’s produced and unproduced work for the theatre, and contains both spoken and sung extracts from ‘Privates on Parade’, ‘Forget-Me-Not Lane’, ‘Hearts and Flowers’, both versions of a ‘A Piece of my Mind’, ‘Poppy’, ‘A Day in the Death of Joe Egg’, ‘The National Health’, ‘A Better Mousetrap’, ‘The Gorge’ and ‘Born in the Gardens’. The work is framed by a biographical description of Nichols’s life, including readings of extracts from his autobiography Feeling You’re Behind (1984) and from the unpublished novel ‘Love Fifteen’. The script was given to the archive by Peter Nichols in January 2004.
