Materials: Parchment codex.
Dimensions: 185 x 120 mm (text space:).
Foliation: ff. vi + 68 (all unfoliated flyleaves are modern paper leaves). Old foliation in brown pen '1-2,7-59' (ff. 1-55) indicating the loss of four leaves after f. 2, repeating no. 53 and omitting no. 55; modern foliation in pencil '1-68'.
Collation: i8-4 (third-sixth lacking), ii10, iii8, iv-v10, vi8, vii10, viii8, with quire signatures at the end of gatherings.
Layout: Pricked and ruled (single vertical bounding lines) in metal point for single columns of 20 lines. Text written above ruled lines.
Script: Protogothic; written in black or brown ink by several scribes. Notabilia and occasional glosses by later hands.
Binding: Harley binding of red morocco over thin boards with gilt-tooled decoration attributable to Thomas Elliott: four tools and three rolls used for the gilt-tooled decoration of the covers correspond to tools nos. 1, 2, 6, 15 and rolls nos. 1-3 reproduced in Howard M. Nixon, 'Harleian Bindings', in Studies in the Book Trade in Honour of Graham Pollard, Bibliographical Society Publications, n.s., 18 (Oxford: Oxford Bibliographical Society, 1975), pl. 14; spine replaced and spine titles now pasted onto f. iii recto.

Johann Georg Graevius (b. 1632, d. 1703), German antiquary and classical scholar: passed with his library to the Elector Palatine Johann Wilhelm for his library at Düsseldorf.
John William II (b. 1658, d. 1716), Elector Palatine of the Rhine (1690-1716): Sold by his librarian, Johann Büchels (b. 1659, d. 1738), to Giovanni Giacomo Zamboni (d. 1753).
Giovanni Giacomo Zamboni (d. 1753), Chargé d'Affaires in London for the Duke of Modena, the Landgrave of Hessen-Darmstadt, and the King of Poland (Elector of Saxony) from circa 1707 to 1753. Acquired from Zamboni for the Harleian library by Edward Harley (1689-1741) on 20 October 1725 (see inscription, f. 1r) (see The Diary 1966 and Wright 1972).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta, née Cavendish Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library. Harley shelfmarks '127.A.23 / 4346' in ink and '2/III A' in pencil on f. ii recto.
