WHITWORTH PAPERS. Vol. XVI. (ff. 424). Correspondence of C. Whitworth, as Envoy Extraordinary, etc., at Berlin; 10 July (O.S.), 1716 - 23 March / 3 April, 1717. He arrived at Berlin 12 Aug. (N.S.), and, except for a short time in Sept.-Oct., when he paid a visit to George I. at Hanover, his dispatches are written from that Court till his departure early in April, 1717, for the Hague. His principal correspondents are Lord Townshend and James Stanhope [Viscount Stanhope 1717], Secretaries of State, the latter being in attendance on George I. in Hanover; and other writers are the King and Queen of Prussia and Paul Methuen, Secretary in the place of J. Stanhope during the latter's absence from England.
