WHITWORTH PAPERS: official correspondence and papers of Charles Whitworth [cr. Baron Whitworth of Galway 1721] during his embassies at various European Courts; 1702-1725. During this period, which virtually covered the whole of his diplomatic career, Whitworth represented Great Britain at Ratisbon, 1702-1703, and again 1714-1716; Vienna, 1704; Moscow, 1704-1712; Berlin, 1716-1717, and again in 1719-1722; The Hague, 1717-1719; and the congress at Cambray, 1722-1725. He died in October, 1725. This collection came into the hands of George John [West], 5th Earl Delawarr (d. 1869), through marriage with Lady Elizabeth Sackville, younger sister and co-heir of George John Sackville, 4th Duke of Dorset (d. 1815), Charles Whitworth, Earl Whitworth (d. 1825), grand-nephew of the diplomatist, having, in 1807, married Arabella Diana, widow of John Frederick Sackville, 3rd Duke of Dorset (d. 1799).
