ASTON PAPERS. Vol. X. Register of charters and other records relating to Southrey, co. Norfolk, and to its connexion with the Abbey of Bury St. Edmunds, down to temp. Hen. VI. Apparently part of the same Bury Register as Add. 31970. The old numeration here is from f. 404 to f. 445. The earliest charter which is referred to is that of King Edmund granting Southrey in A.D. 942 to Theodred, Bishop of London, by whom the manor was given to the secular clergy of Bury. Included (ff. 21, 38) are two rentals with names of tenants, 9 Hen. V.
(1421-1422) and 1 Hen. VI. (1422-1423), both in the time of William Curteys, cellarer of the Abbey, the manor of Southrey having been appropriated temp. Edw. I. to that office. The manor came into the hands of Sir Thomas Aston in the early part of the 18th century. Vellum; ff. 42. XV. cent. Folio.
