1. Portions of Layard's edition (the fifth, 1887) of F. T. Kugler's Handbook of Painting: the Italian Schools, viz. : Part i, ch. vii (f. 2), ix (f. 21), x (f. 31), xi (f. 39) ; Part ii, ch. xii (f. 71), xiii (f. 84), xiv (f. 95), xviii (part only, pp. 465-471 ; f. 106). Parts of the following pages of the printed work are wanting in the MS.: i, pp. 209-212 (top), 212 (bottom) 217, 220, 221, 226-228, 230-234, 237, 238, 243-245, 292, 293; ii, pp. 384-386. Included are a few leaves of the fourth edition of the printed work, with MS. corrections and additions (see ff. 7, 9, 10, 12, 16, 18, 59, 105). Autograph draft (title in Lady Layard's hand). f. 1.
2. Layard's Introduction to Morelli's Italian Painters, tr. Miss C. J. Ffoulkes, 1892. For Layard's correspondence with Morelli, 1863- 1891, see above, 38963-38968; for Miss Ffoulkes's letters to Layard on the plan and progress of this work see her name in the Index. The MS. as sent to the press (the printed Introduction is dated Dec. 1891, but the MS. Nov.). Autograph (except title, f. 110, and ff. 117-119, which are in the band of Lady Layard). f . 110.
3. Layard's article on "Renaissance Cookery," published in Murray's Magazine, vol. ix, March, 1891, pp. 326-345. Two autograph drafts, the first being that which was sent to the presss, title (f. 145) in the hand of Lady Layard. ff. 145, 160.
4. "A. H. Layard: MS. on Mosaics" (so the title, in Lady Layard's hand, f. 173): an article which does not appear to have been published, n.d. [after Nov. 1886, see the reference on f. 174, six lines from foot, to the "late" Mr. Ayrton.] Autograph. f. 173. Folio.
