Journal of John Hyde from London, via Paris and Marseilles, to Alexandria, and in Egypt; 27 Sept. 1818-4 Sept. 1819. He ascended the Nile as far as Wady Halfa, from which place he attempted to reach Dongola in the company of [William John] Bankes, [Henry William] Beechey and Dr [Alessandro] Ricci, but the party was forced to turn back at Amara. 'Phis expedition is described in The Life and Adventures of Giovanni Finati, transl. by W. J. Bankes, ii, 1830, pp. 320-340. Much of the volume consists of descriptions and plans of temples. Extracts from Hyde's letters and papers are appended, 4 Sept. 1819-11 Apr. 1821. Paper; ff. i + 256. 4.1/8 in. x 9½ in.
