JOURNALS and note-books of John Hyde whilst travelling in Egypt, the Near East and India; 1818-1825. The author, who describes himself as 'of Manchester' (42103, f. 55b), set out from London 27 Sept. 1818, and died of cholera at Moorshedabad in Bengal, 24 Apr. 1825 (42106, f. 222, and Gentleman's Magazine, 1825, p. 478). Extracts from his correspondence have been added to the first volume in order to supplement a lost volume of the journals. This addition and various notes of contents, etc., together with the whole of the final volume, are presumably due to members of the Purves family of Sunbury Place, co. Midd., into whose possession Hyde's papers passed. Seven volumes.
