This volume partly covers, and provides rough material for, the previous volume, and also for a second volume of journal, covering the period 4 Sept. 1819- 2 Nov. 1821, which was lost near Jericho by Sir F. Henniker (cf. his Notes during a visit to Egypt. . ., 2nd ed., 1824, p. 298).
Other note-books formerly in possession of the Purves family but now missing (see list in 42102, f. 2, and cf. f. 256) are:
