REDGRAVE HALL PAPERS. Vol. XII. Roll of Swan Marks, containing 534 marks, arranged in two columns, the majority of the swan owners belonging to cos. Norfolk and Suffolk. The roll, which includes such names as Bassingbourne Gawdy (the first of that name died 1590), Sir John Tasbungh (knighted 1603), Sir Thomas Playters of Sotterley Hall (knighted 1606), in addition to those of Royal, noble, and monastic owners, appears to be an early 17th cent. copy of an earlier collection (temp. Henry VIII ?) containing contemporary additions in order to bring it up to date ; towards the end of the roll the compiler refers to "my cousin Tasburgh" and "my cousin Bateman." Somewhat similar collections of swan marks are in Harley MS. 3405, Egerton MSS. 2412, 2413, and Add. MSS. 4977, 6301, 6302, 23732. Vellum roll (19 8kins sewn together) ; 38 ft. 0½ in. x 5¾ in. xvii cent.
