VERNON PAPERS. Vol. XXXV (ff. 109). Log-book, kept by Verris Le Compte (see f. 100 b), of two French ships from the Rade de Ranee [St. Malo] to the West Indies, 1707-1710; used, after capture, by Capt. Edward Vernon for memoranda, 1710-1729. The contents are:-(1) Log of a voyage of the St. Esprit, cf. (2) below; 18 June-7 July 1707. f. 2;-(2) "Au non de Dieu soit commancé nostre voiage dans le nauire le St Esprit pour le voiage de la Vellea Croux [Vera Cruz], commandé par Monsieur Raoul, armé de 30 piece de canon et de 150 homme dequipage"; 5 Sept. 1707-9 Nov. 1708. ff. 109 b-74 b (reversed);-(3) "Au non de Dieu soit commance nostre voyage dans le nauire Hirondelle, commandes par Monsieur de la Riviere Dordelin pour le voyage de la merique (sic), armé de 14 piece de canon et de 60 homme de quipage (sic)"; 25 Sept.-8 Dec. 1710. ff. 73-54 b (reversed);-
(4) Memoranda by Edward Vernon, including accompts of goods sold at Jamaica, 12 Dec. 1710, etc., inventories of books and other effects, disbursements for the new house at Nacton, etc. The latest entry is dated 21 June 1729. Passim.
