This collection derives from two main sources, the papers of James Vernon, Secretary of State under William III, and the papers of his younger son, Edward Vernon (Admiral 1745), with subsidiary contributions from James Vernon, junior, elder brother, and Francis Vernon (Baron Orwell 1762, Earl of Shipbrook 1777), nephew and heir, of the Admiral. Correspondingly the contents are sharply divided between political and naval interests. Eighty volumes. Folio, unless otherwise stated. Presented by T. S. Vernon Cocks, Esq.
