CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN PAPERS. Vol. XLVII (ff. 263). Letters and memoranda addressed to the Rt. Hon. John Sinclair, M.P., 1st Lord Pentland 1909, in reply to requests for autograph letters, etc., of Sir Henry, with a view to the compilation of the "Life (eventually written by Mr. J. A. Spender and published in 1923) 1908-1923. Copies of Sir Henry's letters have been inserted in their proper places in the correspondence, as catalogued above. The present correspondence is divided into two sections by a break between 1 Mar. 1911 (f. 113) and 12 Sept. 1919 (f. 120), Lord Pentland having been absent in India as Governor of Madras from 1912 to 1919. The first series of letters was, in part, in answer to a letter, 1908, to The Times (6 Nov., p. 13, col. 5), the Westminster Gazette, and other papers, the second series in answer to the circular letter on ff. 118-119. Included in the second series are (a) reminiscences by Henry Higgs, C.B., of H.M.
