(1) Memoirs, character sketches, etc. (a) Two drafts of 'Laura': a memoir of Octavia Laura Tennant, 1st wife (1885) of the Hon. Alfred Lyttelton; written in 1887 and revised for private circulation, 1916. ff. 1-171. (b) Three drafts of Part I and four of Part II of 'Mr. Balfour', [Arthur James Balfour, 1st Earl of Balfour 1924]; 1917-1920. Mary Gladstone was constantly revising this character sketch and intended to publish it in her Acton, Gladstone and others, 1924. Part I was eventually printed in The Observer, 23 March 1930. ff. 172-322.
