HARINGTON PAPERS. Vol. XVIII (ff. i + 54). Miscellaneous literary works in prose and verse, chiefly of Henry Harington, M.D., of Bath; circ. 1747-1798. Partly printed, as follows:-
(1) Henry Harington, 'Of the Beauty of Proportion', a translation from an anatomy lecture in Latin entitled 'De Structura et Pulchretudine Corporis humani' that was delivered at Oxford in April 1747. Copy, circ. 1801. ff. 1-4.
(2) 'The Cantabrigiad', an anonymous mock-heroic poem on the University in two cantos; circ. 1780-1789. The preface, explanatory notes and second canto are written apparently in the author's autograph, and casting-off marks show that the manuscript has passed through a printer's hands. ff. 16-47.
(3) Henry Harington, 'Euthemia; or the Power of Harmony. Sacred to the Memory of a Deceased Pair. To which is added The Court of Discord'; 1751. Printed, without author's name or place. The subjects of 'Euthemia' were the Rev. William Harington of Kington St. Michael (d. 1751) and his wife, and not Robert Harington (d. 1765) as stated in a MS. note of Susanna Isabella Thomas on f. 49. The final item, entitled 'Slander; or, the Witch of Wokey', was published in a version edited by Shenstone in T. Percy's Reliques, 1765, i, pp. 310-315. ff. 49-54b. Paper. Quarto. Circ. 1756-1801.
