Scope & Content:

Comprising literary and historical collections of and relating to the family of Harington of Kelston; 16th-19th centt. Much of the material was printed in Nugae Antiquae, edited by Henry Harington (D.D. 1788), 1769, 1775; further editions of this work appeared in 1779 and 1792, and it was revised and enlarged by Thomas Park in 1804. Four John Haringtons are involved and are distinguished as follows, viz., John Harington of Stepney (d. 1552), Sir John Harington of Kelston (d. 1612), John Harington, M.P. (d. 1654), and John Harington of Corston (d. 1700); the lastnamed moved to Kelston on the death of his mother in 1674. For biographical notices of these men see F. J.
