(1) Correspondence of Vice - Admiral William Young, comprising mostly letters to his wife, Ann née Curling (written while serving under Lord Keith on his expedition to Egypt, 1800-1801, and during a term of duty in Ireland, 1804); 1798-1812. Ff. 18-61b are copies by his granddaughter, Mrs Ellen Thomas née Oldfield, made from originals in the possession of the Oldfield family (see f. 46). At ff. 64-65b is a copy by her of Vice-Admiral Young's obituary notice in The Times, 15 Feb. 1847. Preceded by a letter from Martha, widow of Sir Whistler Webster, 2nd Bart., to her sister-in-law, Mrs Nairn, 31 Jan. 1784 (f. 1), and (f. i) by a note by the donor on another letter of Lady Webster now in the London Museum. ff. 1-65b.
