As follows:-(a) 'Sea Slumber Song'. ff. 2-10;-(b) 'In Haven (Capri)', copy in the hand of Lady Elgar, annotated by Elgar (f. 12) 'for Miss [Clara] Butt with one fair copy', and a rough sketch of the accompaniment (f. 14). ff. 12-14;-(c) 'Sabbath Morning at Sea'. ff. 15-18v, 30v;-(d) 'Where corals lie', annotated (f. 19v) 'Clara Butt' and dated 'Jany 3.99'. ff. 19v-21;-(e) 'The Swimmer'. ff. 22-30, 31.
ff. 32-302. 'The Dream of Gerontius', op. 38, setting of the poem by Cardinal Newman for mezzo-soprano, tenor and bass soli, chorus and orchestra. Completed in 1900. Published by Novello, 1900. The sketches for Part I (ff. 33-115v) include some for the Prelude (ff. 33-40, 98v), and a plan for the 'Proficiscere' (f. 115v); those for Part II (ff. 117-302) include a setting of part of the poem not used in the final version (ff. 130-134).
