Mostly autograph. The collection includes a few copies of words, etc., in the hand of Lady Elgar. Notes by Elgar's daughter, Mrs Carice Irene Blake, and Harold L. Brooke of Novello & Co., relating to their preliminary arrangement of the collection before it came to the Department, are bound passim.

Dates of composition in this catalogue are based on those given in Michael Kennedy, Portrait of Elgar, 1968.
