ff. 1-15. Galley-sheets, dated by Elgar 'Aug 1:1906' (f. 1).
ff. 16-34. Typewritten copy with Elgar's corrections.
ff. 35-177. Typewritten and manuscript drafts.
ff. 178-199. Three early drafts including (ff. 193-196) the Simon of Gitta (Simon Magus) episode omitted from the final libretto (also found in the sketches for Elgar's third oratorio, Add MS 47906, ff. 18-22).
ff. 200-241. Miscellaneous plans, notes and memoranda, some later used in the third oratorio. F. 228, headed 'New ideas', is dated 'Jany 2: 1905'. Notes for a lecture are on f. 241.
ff. 244-250. Two letters to Elgar, dated 'Jan 17' and 'Feb 3' [before 1906], from Canon Charles Vincent Gorton, Rector of Poulton-le-Sands, relating to the libretto.
