Leake II, as Joint Plenipotentiary with John Manners, Marquess of Granby, of the mission to invest Prince Frederick of Brunswick with the Garter; 16 Aug. 1759-6 May 1760. A preamble (f. 4) is followed by an account of preliminary proceedings in England and of the journey through Holland and Germany (for an index of places visited see f. 68). A briefer account of the investiture at Kroffdorf near Giessen (ff. 47-57) is printed in The Annual Register, 1759, pp. 144-145. See also M. Noble, A History of the College of Arms, 1805, p. 410. Pasted in at f. 2 are the engraved, handpainted arms of the prince. Among appendices (ff. 67-83b) is a list of travelling expenses (ff. 69-72b). For two related maps see 47998 B, ff. 42- 44.
