Judgement by Isabel and Fernando, the Catholic Monarchs, in the case of a claim made by the Hospital del Rey of Burgos
- Scope & Content:
-
The Catholic Monarchs, Isabel [I of Castile] (b. 1469, d. 1504) and Fernando [II of Aragon] (b. 1452, d. 1516), give judgement (sentencia) in the case of a claim made by the Hospital del Rey of Burgos against Martín Fernández de Tovar, Lord (señor) of Caracena [in the province of Soria] for 400 mrs., accustomed to be paid by Sancho Fernández de Tovar and Juan de Tovar, grandfather and father of the defendant, from the martiniegas (taxes) of the lordship of Caracena. These 400 mrs. were given to the Hospital del Rey to pay for the clothing of the paupers, and the Hospital claims that Martín Fernández de Tovar has stopped making the payment. The sentence is favourable to the Hospital del Rey. The judgement is dated in Valladolid, on 6 December 1484. Two more entries are added to the sentence: one in Valladolid on 17 December 1484, and another one in Caracena on 7 January 1485, related to the outcome of the trial and the payment of the money owed to the Hospital.
