Grant by Isabella de Brus (d. 1252), daughter of Earl David [of Huntingdon], to Hatfield Regis Priory of all the service owed to her by Nicholas Bus and his heirs.
The document is undated, but Isabella was granted the manor of Hatfield Regis by Henry III (r. 1216-1272) in 1238.
Endorsed: in a 17th-century hand, ’23 deeds without dates to which Sr. Nicholas de Barento[n] is witness two of which are from Robert and Isabell de Brus / perused 1677'; in a 15th-century hand, ‘Cart[a] Isabell de Brus de om[n]ib[us] s[er]vic[io] Nich[olai] Bus [et] de al[iis] p[ar]cell[is] / Isabell de Brus de t[erre] Suff.’
Affixed with a seal of Isabella de Brus, green, a lozenge, showing a full-length figure of a Isabella standing on a carved corbel, with long dress, cloak, and a headdress, holding a fleur-de-lis in her right hand, and her left hand on her breast; in the field on each side a way sprig of foliage (see Birch, Catalogue of Seals (1887), II, p. 379).
