Genealogy of the family of Strangways and related families, from the 12th century onwards: compiled (see ff. 14, 15b) in Jan 1696/7, from family records and memorial inscriptions at Melbury, by Thomas Guidott, physician, who was agent or executor to Susanna Rideout, mother of Mrs. Susanna Strangways-Horner (see a letter from William, 4th Lord Ilchester, 12 Nov 1839, in Add MS 51367, f. 8). Pasted in at the end (f. 15b) is the shield of arms, in tincture, of the compiler. A different hand, circa 1698, has added some corrections and later entries (f. 7b), and in the 19th century a few corrections in pencil were made. Contents:- (1) Pedigree, with arms in tincture, of the family of Strangways of Dorset. ff. 1-7b; - (2) Accounts of the families of Strangways of Dorset and (f. 15) of Yorkshire. ff. 8-15. On the inside of a cover (f. ii) are some contemporary notes on the family.
