The file contains papers relating to British policy in Persia [Iran] and the Persian Gulf.
It includes the following papers:
- A copy of a printed ‘Report on a Tour in Western Persia’ by Henry Mortimer Durand, HM Minister, Tehran (folios 13 to 17)
- Two printed copies of a letter from the Government of India Foreign Department to the Secretary of State for India, Lord George Francis Hamilton, with a minute by George Nathaniel Curzon as Viceroy of India, regarding the maintenance of British influence in Persia, in the face of Russian ‘ambitions’ in Eastern Persia (folios 18 to 29)
- A printed copy of a letter from the Secretary of State for India to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, enclosing a copy of a report by the Political Resident, Bushire, on the Trucial Chiefs of the Persian Gulf (folios 30 to 31)
- A note by Hugh Shakespear Barnes on the ‘Question of a Loan to Persia’ (folios 32 to 33)
- A pamphlet of an address on Persia delivered by Sir Lepel Griffin, Chairman of the Council of the East India Association (folios 34 to 45)
- A pamphlet entitled Russia, India and the Persian Gulf by John David Rees (folios 56 to 78).
