Bound volume containing the annual reports for 1927-1932 inclusive.
The documents for each year contain a History of the Fund, a list of the officers of the corporation (Patron, President, Vice-Presidents, Council, Committee, Registrars, Treasurers, Auditors, honorary officers, Bankers and Secretary), and lists of chairmen of the anniversaries, ‘Members of the Corporation’ with details of their donations, donors not yet qualified as members, miscellaneous benefactions, legacies, decreased benefactors and ‘Officers of the Corporation, Deceased’. For each year there are also Auditors’, Treasurers’ and Registrars’ reports for the previous year as well as details of the stewards of and donations made at the Anniversary dinners, short items on major bequests (from Thomas Newton and T L Kington Oliphant) and an advertisement for David William: Founder of The Royal Literary Fund, by Edward Verrall Lucas.
For each year, there are also varying records as described below:
1927 (68 pp.): ‘The Anniversary Meeting, 1927’, with transcripts of the speeches (chair: Julian Hedworth George Byng, Viscount Byng of Vimy; principal speakers: Sir St Clair Thomson; Harry J C Graham; Sir Henry Newbolt).
1928 (68 pp.): ‘The Anniversary Meeting, 1928’, with transcripts of the speeches (chair: Stanley Baldwin; principal speakers: William Cosmo Gordon Lang, the Archbishop of York; George Macaulay Trevelyan; Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins).
1929 (68 pp.): ‘The Anniversary Dinner, 1929’, with transcripts of the speeches (chair: John Galsworthy; principal speakers: Alfred Edward Woodley Mason (auctioning the manuscript of Galsworthy’s play Loyalties); Hugh Pattison Macmillan; Hugh Walpole; David Alexander Edward Lindsay, Earl of Crawford and Balcarres); plate of a bust of Charles Whibley, Committee Member of the Fund, who passed away in 1930.
1930 (68 pp.): ‘The Anniversary Dinner, 1930’, with transcripts of the speeches (chair: Sir James Matthew Barrie; principal speakers: Alfred Duff Cooper; John Boynton Priestley; David Alexander Edward Lindsay, Earl of Crawford and Balcarres).
1931 (64 pp.): ‘The Anniversary Dinner, 1931’, with transcripts of the speeches (chair: Prince Albert, Duke of York; principal speakers: Frederic Blagden Malim; Sir James George Frazer; Alfred Edward Woodley Mason; David Alexander Edward Lindsay, Earl of Crawford and Balcarres).
