This box contains the Royal Literary Fund’s Registrars’ Reports from 1839-1895 and the Treasurers’ Reports from 1840 to 1887.

The Registrars’ Reports give details of the General Committee members, Registrars and Treasurers who attended each Committee meeting and list vacancies on the Committee and the Council, sometimes proposing candidates to fill these. The reports prior to 1849 also list Vice-Presidents, Members of the Council and Auditors who attended meetings; after 1848, the individuals filling these positions no longer took part in Committee business. The folders also contain a small number of letters relating to the reports, filed with the appropriate year.

The Treasurers’ Reports give details of the Fund’s finances, including its permanent fund and its various incomes from donations, subscriptions, the anniversary dinners, stocks and the Thomas Newton bequest, which included property and an estate. Some years simply give a written account of the Fund’s various sources of income, while others also give tabulated information. The folders regularly contain correspondence from the treasurers – these letters are filed with the reports for the appropriate year. The Treasurers’ Reports are also printed in the Fund’s Annual Reports (see Loan 96 RLF 3).
