Royal Literary Fund: Financial Records

This box contains three bound folders of documents relating to the financial affairs of the Literary Fund, consisting principally of accounts, receipts and related correspondence.
1: Receipts for Dining
Contains receipts for Fund Dinners held between 1800 and 1841, as well as a small amount of related correspondence. Receipts are organised by year, although for some years no records are present.
2: Purchase, Sale and Transfer of Stock
Contains documents relating to the Fund’s stocks and shares, including resolutions, certificates, correspondence and receipts. These records run from 1798 until 1912. Until the 1880s the Fund principally invested in £3 per cent annuities from the Bank of England; in later years, its portfolio diversified.
3: Law Expenses, Quit Rent & Fines, Newton Estate, Legacy Expenses, and Information Respecting Legacies
A number of pages have been removed from this folder. Those that remain principally detail legacies and leases relating to the Fund and date from the years between 1874 and 1927.
