Miscellaneous Indian correspondence. Many of these letters relate to Lansdowne’s arrival as Viceroy in 1888 and his departure in 1894, including personal greetings and congratulations, and recommendations for appointments and honours. Correspondents include Frederick Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood, 1st Marquess of Dufferin & Ava (Lansdowne’s predecessor as Viceroy), Robert Bourke, Baron Connemara (Governor of Madras), John Wodehouse, 1st Earl of Kimberley (Secretary of State for India), Antony MacDonnell, Baron MacDonnell (Governor of Bengal), George Allen (proprietor of the Allahabad newspaper The Pioneer) and Sir Henry Brackenbury (military member of the Viceroy’s Council). Partly printed, including newspaper cuttings, and a corrected draft of Lansdowne’s memorandum on the proposed evacuation of Chitral, 1895.
