Political papers of Lord Lansdowne. Contents as follows:
1. Correspondence and papers relating to the declaration of war in August 1914, including letters from Lord Crewe and Austen Chamberlain, a typewritten copy of correspondence between Andrew Bonar Law and H.H. Asquith, a typewritten note of a conversation with Lord Haldane, and a letter from Lansdowne to his wife reporting on political developments.
2. Papers relating to the Cabinet crisis of 1916 and the break-up of the Asquith government, including several Cabinet memoranda by Lansdowne, a memorandum of conversation between Lloyd George and certain Unionist ex-ministers, and a note of a conversation with Asquith on 5 December 1916 (the day of his resignation).
3. Letters to Lansdowne following the publication of his ‘peace letter’ in the Daily Telegraph in November 1917. Correspondents include Lady Frances Balfour, Lord Buckmaster, Lord Burnham, Austen Chamberlain, Lord Fitzmaurice, F.W. Hirst (editor of Common Sense), Andrew Bonar Law, H.W. Massingham (editor of The Nation), Arthur Ponsonby, and others.
4. Memorandum on a conversation between Lansdowne and F.W. Hirst, Secretary of the League for Public Economy, on public expenditure; 1919.
