Two scores, by Ireland and by Howells, as follows:
1. John Ireland, ‘Three pieces for pianoforte’ (i.e. Decorations): copyist’s ms with autograph annotations and autograph title-page. The titles to each piece have been covered with blank slips adhered to the manuscript; however, they can (just) still be seen: I ‘The Island Spell’ (as published); II ‘In Exile’ (differing from the published title ‘Moon-glade’); III 'Dithyramb' (published title: ‘The Scarlet Ceremonies’). At the top of the final page of ‘II’, a slip with a two-bar revision has been adhered. [1912-13].
2. Herbert Howells, ‘Musica sine Nomine’, for piano, dedicated ‘in salutation to J. I.’ Autograph, dated 13 August 1959, and presented to Ireland on the occasion of his 80th birthday. (The composition remained unpublished and unknown until recorded in 1994 by Margaret Fingerhut.)
