Scope & Content:

All letters are from Ireland to John Longmire unless otherwise indicated. They include one letter from Ireland to Joyce Longmire (1939) and four letters from Ireland to Viviane Longmire (1950 and 1951), as noted below.

A few letters are only present as copies of typed transcriptions, made by Longmire in the course of preparing John Ireland: Portrait of a Friend (1969). These transcriptions were then (poorly) photocopied at a later date.
