The volume contains a list of names of ships arranged in alphabetical order, issued by the Master Attendant's Office. Beside the names of ships, the following details have been provided for nearly every ship: decks; thickness of bottom; extreme length; length of keel for tonnage; extreme breadth; depth of hold; heights of wing transom and of port cell; depth of waist; height between decks (lower and middle, middle and upper, lower and upper); roundhouse; number of ports of each side (middle deck and upper deck); range of deck; gunrooms ports (up and down, athwart ships); launching draft of water (forward, aft); tonnage on board at launching (kintledge [kentledge], wood); tonnage by measurement; builders' names; where built; on what bottom; when launched; and when measured. Measurements are in feet and inches, tonnage in tons, and kentledge in fathoms.
The volume was probably created at one time in the 1830s or later. The date range provided covers the launch dates of the ships listed.
