These are cuttings books compiled by Edmund Candler. Book One is a green notebook with red binding and contains cuttings of reviews for "A Vagabond in Asia". The reviews are glued into the book but some have come loose. Not all the pages are used. The front of the book is labelled (additions at a later date from another person) with "E.Candler's Cuttings Book a Vagabond in Asia (1901) (BOOK ONE)" and subsequent comments on the cuttings. Book Two is a black notebook with green binding with added label "E. Candler's cuttings book (BOOK TWO) 1893 -" This notebook starts with Candler's poems, some handwritten and some cuttings from his time at Cambridge University. It contains articles and reviews from a variety of publications written by Candler and reviews for his books "A Vagabond in Asia", "The Unveiling of Lhasa", "The Mantle of the East", "The General Plan" and "Siri Ram". In addition there is a letter from Candler to Edward Cook & Co. Ltd, The Soap Specialists (1904) congratulating them on the effectiveness of their soap in Tibet; a Reader's response (1905) to his book, "The Unveiling of Lhasa" questioning some of Candler's view regarding the transmission of religion from west to east; and a newspaper's artist representation of Edmund Candler under the heading "Wounded Wartime Correspondent". There are also Parliamentary Notices relating to Candler's appointment as principal of Hooghly College. Within the book are additional loose cuttings, and a note added by another person regarding the contents of the book.
