View of the Christ Church from Jakko hill, Shimla, taken by Samuel Bourne in the 1860s. Mount Jakko, 2,450 m, is the highest peak in Shimla. Christ Church designed by Colonel J.T. Boileau was built between 1844 and 1857. The large porch added in 1873 was a popular place for meetings before and after services and was also the best site in the area for parades due to its size. The church had a fresco surrounding its chancel window designed by Lockwood Kipling, Rudyard Kipling's father, but it no longer survives.
