View along the line towards the station
With accompanying letterpress description: The Khyber Railway. The Khyber Railway starts from Jamrud 1,500 feet above sea level and immediately after leaving the station the grade steadily increases in severity as the train approaches the clearly marked mouth of the Pass. The first station at Bagiari lies in the jaws of the pass close to Bagiari Fort. Ahead lie steep hillsides up which the railway has to find its way and on the sky line is visible Changai station built like a fort, which the train will only reach after traversing some three miles of tortuous line. After passing Bagiari a high bridge carries the line over the valley in which lie both motor and caravan roads. While crossing the bridge, the two reversing stations can be seen high up to the left lying one above the other on the hillside. A long curve through two tunnels brings the train to a stop at the first reversing station at Medanak. On starting again the train climbs up a nullah to the mouth of Kafir Tangi tunnel, on emerging from which the motor and caravan roads are visible across the valley together with many of the forts which guard the Khyber
