With accompanying letterpress description: The railway is 26 miles long from Jamrud to Landi Khana. The gauge is 5' - 6". The maximum gradient up to Landi Kotal is 1 in 33 and the maximum grade down to Landi Khana is 1 in 25. There are 34 tunnels having an aggregate length of 3 miles and the quantity of earthwork in the embankments and cuttings is 80 million cubic feet. There are 92 bridges and culverts but none are of any great size. There are two reversing stations on the way up to Landi Kotal and two between Landi Kotal and the Frontier. Crossing stations are provided at close intervals and there are nine stations in the 26 miles between Jamrud and Landi Khana. The station buildings are made like forts and are defended by towers at the corners. The railway lies entirely in tribal territory outside British India and it is safeguarded by tribal Khassadars acting under the Political Agent, Khyber
