Le Kaire. Tombeaux de Sultans Mamelouks. [Mameluk Tombs, Cairo.] Photographer: Teynard, Félix
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
[These tombs, situated in the west of Cairo, are built of dressed stone, including the dome, although this has not prevented the application of the red and white distemper which decorates the exterior. The symmetrical tinted surfaces seen on the sand on the right are composed of animal waste which the local population dry in the sun and which they arrange in geometrical shapes so that any theft will be easily detected.]
