Close view of bas-relief of Cleopatra and Caesarion carved in bas-relief on the rear wall of the temple. This detail can be seen in context at the left of plate 24. With accompanying note: 'Ces sculptures, représentées déjà à la gauche de la planche précédente, sont de dimensions énormes: Cléopâtre n’a moins de 5m,20 de hauteur, coiffure comprise. Les parties non recouvertes de vêtements, la tête de Cléopâtre, la tête et le buste de Caesarion, ont été martelés par des religionnaires fanatiques qui ont poursuivi avec acharnement la représentation des êtres animés; les chapiteaux du pronaos n’ont pas été épargnés, les parois de cette vaste salle ont été mutilées, et ce ne sont que les parties trop élevées pour être atteintes facilement qui ont échappé à la dévastation.'
