View looking across the tree-lined cortyard of the temple, with one of the bronze guardian lions on its plinth in the foreground: 'The Yung Ho Kung...commonly known as the Lama Temple, is near the north wall at the end of Hatamen Street. It is a temple or rather monastery of the degraded form of Buddhism which prevails in Mongolia, known as Lamaism...It will be seen that the premises are very spacious, and this view with No. XLIII give but a small part of the whole monastery. The lions in the courtyard are considered veru fine specimens of bronze casting.'
