The Myapore Dam. Photographer: Glover, Thomas George
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Industrial Photography
View looking across the dam on the Ganges Canal, with part of the regulator bridge visible in the background. The accompanying letterpress includes a diagram of this section of the canal: 'The Myapore work consists of a dam (Plate V), thrown across a branch of the Ganges, called the Kunkhul channel, at a point about three-quarters of a mile below the Town of Hurdwar, which is connected on its right flank by a curved revetment wall with a regulating bridge (Plates VI and VII), across the mouth of the Canal; a line of ghts and revetments, securing the flank of the bridge on its up-stream side. This point is the real head of the Ganges Canal, and it was from here that the actual excavation of its channel commenced.'
