Kasamatsu [after the earthquake]. Photographer: Ogawa Kazuma
- Scope & Content:
-
'In the illustration are several koya or temporary shelters, where people are sitting in the midst of a few tubs and pans saved from the wreck. The large wooden tubs in the centre evidently mark the site of a miso or shoyu (bean sauce) factory. Two kura or warehouses, which have heavy roofs and are built of timbers with a wattle of bamboo filled in with mud, have fairly well resisted the motion. Excepting these warehouses and the trees, everything has been levelled with the plain.'
