The Temple of Komumboo [Temple of Horus and Sobek, Kom Ombo]. Photographer: Frith, Francis
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
View of the sand-buried columns and entablature of a section of the Temple of Horus and Sobek at Kom Ombo (Ombos), with fallen sections of masonry in the foreground: 'In the view we see the remains of the great portico. To the left are the two entrances side by side, each surmounted by a winged globe. The forms of the capitals are admirably rendered. That to the right is of the palm-tree order, the most original and elegant of those of the late style. The floral column next to it is in the form of a papyrus-flower, the order used for the central avenues of the hypostyle halls of the great temples of the Empire. The rest are of the composite orders that are especially characteristic of the period...'
