Circular image. Photomicrograph of part of the tongue of a cricket: 'few [microscopic objects] are more remarkable for beauty and exquisite organization than the one selected for our next illustration, - the tongue of the common cricket (Acheta domestica). We have, however, only been able to bring into view a half or single side of this interesting structure, owing to the necessity of employing a comparatively high microscopic power for clearly defining the extremely delicate 'tracheae,' or air tubes, which constitute so large a part of the organ.'
