View looking along the south façade of St George's Chapel, Windsor. The letterpress alludes to the difficulty of securing this exterior view: 'the South Front presents a charming spectacle. Although it stands in a fine open space, yet the distance is too limited to obtain a satisfactory view of the entire front from the ground; and, in order to get the advantage of a few extra feet, I availed myself of the roof of the Guard-house, from whence I obtained this comprehensive view. By using a lens of much wider angle, I could have produced a more diminutive, and, at the same time, a more direct image of the building; but the effect would not have been so pleasing.'
