The second of two diaries kept by Captain William Raban during his furlough in England 1803-1804, describing his social life whilst on furlough and is eventual return to his regiment in April 1804.
Events attendend include exhibitions, masked balls, fireworks, the opera, dinners, meetings with friends, numerous plays and theatre productions throughout the country, and a stay in Bath during the winter of 1803.
The later entries in the diary recount his son Herbert (Charles Fitzherbert Raban) entering the Admiralty, and his own return to his regiment with details of their march from Kent to Essex and Suffolk, their daily field drills and meeting the Duke of York in Colchester.
