Order Tetraodontiformes, Family Tetraodontidae
Original inscriptions: ‘The skin of the lower part of the Pallachee is tough and covered with small Prickles like Shagreen of a light brown colour; the teeth projects forward; the jaw bones are seen distinctly & the skin is little inclined to sink; the skin about the fundament is black and only about an inch from the tail which is small and stiff like that of other fishes – the Ears are similar to a man of this size; and the sides from whence the belly projects out is of the same tinge as the back.’
